How to store liquid for electronic cigarettes: rules and nuances

The liquid contains propylene glycol (PG), glycerin (VG) and nicotine. The first ingredient is chemical, artificially created, so it is resistant to decay. Glycerin and nicotine are organic components, so they can deteriorate over time. If these substances deteriorate, a sour taste and aroma will appear in the liquid. Especially, it concerns fruit mixes. Proper storage will help prolong the life of the slurry and preserve its high-quality taste.

Avoid the heat
Vape liquid should be stored in a cool place, as heat can ruin it. It affects the molecular behavior of the liquid. This is what causes decomposition or a change in taste.

Room temperature is suitable for storing liquid. Despite this, some vapers send it to the refrigerator or freezer. This solution allows you to slow down the process of reproduction of bacteria and oxidative processes. The slurry does not freeze under the influence of cold, but its consistency becomes thicker. If you decide to store liquid in the refrigerator, remember to let it warm up first.

Freezing is great for storing the e-liquid for a long time, but can actually make the flavor less intense and pronounced. If you are not going to use the liquid in the near future, put it in the freezer. So, you will not spoil it completely, but only get a less intense taste and a relatively weak throat hit.

Keep the vial of liquid away from light and air.
Fresh air and sunlight are the main enemies of nicotine. Because of them, oxidation occurs, leading to the destruction of this substance. When nicotine is oxidized, it turns brown, which affects the shade of the liquid. Tobacco and coffee flavors tolerate this process more easily.

It is important not to leave the bottle of liquid open for a long time. This can accelerate oxidation, causing the slurry to deteriorate and become unusable. Close the vial as tightly as possible after each use.

Nicotine is responsible for a slight taste in the liquid, so if the substance spoils, it will lose its taste. It is recommended to store the liquid in a dark place where direct sunlight does not penetrate.

Pay attention to the choice of bottle
Manufacturers produce e-liquids in glass or plastic bottles. The type of packaging affects the purpose and nature of the use of the liquid. This point should be taken into account when choosing containers for self-mixing.

For short-term storage, a plastic bottle is sufficient. If you do not leave it in hot places where sunlight and fresh air penetrate, the liquid will not lose its taste. Plastic bottles are lightweight and easy to use. Their disadvantage is that the products absorb the components of the slurry. You won’t be able to reuse a plastic container, as it will spoil the taste of the new liquid. It is also not recommended to store liquid in it for a long time.

Unlike plastic, glass does not interact with liquid components and does not allow air to pass through. Glass bottles are the ideal solution for long-term storage in cupboards, refrigerators, etc. The best option is bottles made of dark glass. They protect the filling from light. Ceramic containers have similar properties.
Where to store components for self-mixing liquid
The ideal place for flavors is the freshness zone in the refrigerator. It is advisable to use a separate box.

For glycerin and propylene glycol, it is not necessary to free up space in the refrigerator compartment. They can be placed in almost any cool and dark place. Do not buy these substances in large containers. A bottle of up to 100 ml will suffice.

Nicotine is not advised to store at home, as it has toxic properties. Buy exactly as much material as you need for self-mixing. If you have already purchased a nicotine bottle, put it in an opaque bag and put it in a dark and cool place.
